Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The book of Ezekiel is a grueling read. We do not read it often and recoil from its images. In this book, the God's people (think of them as "church folks") enjoy listening to Ezekiel, but regard the implications of his message with contempt. Ezek. 33: 30 "As for you, son of man, your people are .saying to each other, ?Come and hear the message that has come from the LORD.' 31 My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. 32 Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice."
Outwardly pious and upstanding with devout ?ideologies,' they depended on the politics of the day instead of the Lord while their minds were filled with wickedness. The leaders grew rich off the subjects God gave into their care. God's Spirit ultimately departed from His people and He sent a vicious nation to wipe the slate clean. His people did not live up to their responsibilities. His desire was that His people be filled with new life so that His Spirit could return. He desires that of us today.
