Beloved Partners in Prayer,
"I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners, creating the fruit of the lips. Peace, peace, to the far and to the near," says the LORD, "and I will heal him." (Isaiah 57:18-19)
In spite of our rebellion and willfulness, God will heal. How will he heal? God says that He dwells with the humble. Yet we brazenly pursue our own proud ways. What will our healing be? It can only be one thing: God will heal us by humiliation, by crushing our pride. If only the crushed and humble enjoy God's fellowship, and if our sickness is our proud and willful rebellion, and if God promises to heal us, then His healing will be a humbling of our pride and his cure a crushed and contrite spirit.
Being humbled is a painful experience. It is ?humiliating' and degrading. We can no longer polish our Christian medals with pride and honor. We are plainly seen to be the tarnished, dirty creatures we really are underneath our Christian exterior. Our only hope is deep repentance. Then and only then can real healing come.
