Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is the desire of the Christian heart to be filled with God's mighty Holy Spirit. Yet many of us have little idea why God might want us to be filled with His Spirit! Christians do not enjoy the filling of the Holy Spirit just to bask in the presence of the Almighty (though one certainly will do so!) but enjoy God's infilling so that God can accomplish some specific work through him or her, a work that He designed and implements by means of His Spirit. In Exodus 31 and 35, we are introduced to Bezalel, the son of Uri. This man, we are told, was filled with the Spirit of God so that he would be filled with skills, abilities, and special knowledge to be a craftsman par excellence! He was not a preacher or a prophet. He did not speak God's Word to the masses. He was a "general contractor!"
Here is a thought as we go through this next month: maybe God desires to fill YOU with His Mighty Spirit and Power so that you can excel at hospitality, or at being a good friend to someone, or at playing music or singing, or being an extra loving mother, or the best grandfather, or a cheerful giver. God has a special purpose in mind for each of us and gave us natural gifts and talents to correspond. He also gives spiritual gifts (Romans 12 or 1 Corinthians 14) that correspond with His Plan for us.
Love in the Name of Christ
