"10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush Him;
He has put Him to grief; when His soul makes an offering for guilt, He shall see His offspring; He shall prolong His days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11 Out of the anguish of His soul He shall see and be satisfied; by His knowledge shall the Righteous One, my Servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and He shall bear their iniquities."
These words from Isaiah 53 set the tone as we think about the up-coming celebration of our Lord's resurrection. It was God's will that our Lord Jesus be crushed in suffering as an offering for our guilt. It was my hardness of heart that drove nails into the innocent hands and feet. His anguish provided the way for me to be accounted righteous, wretched though I am. He bore all that has or will ever separate me from God.
Yet the message of Easter/Resurrection Sunday is even more glorious. His death paid for my treachery, but He is not dead! He is alive! His Holy Spirit lives in me and He will come to bring me to Himself at my life's end.
