Dear Partners in Prayer,
When Solomon had finished the work of building the temple, he assembled the sacred articles of worship in the temple and commenced worship. (2 Chr. 5) "12 All the Levites who were musicians?Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives?stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets. 13 The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; His love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with the cloud, 14 and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God." The Thanksgiving worship service had begun and God had showed up for the event!
As a child I used to hear the word "thanksgiving" in Bible readings and wondered why God wanted so much dinner!! In my mind "thanksgiving" meant turkey and stuffing and the works! Why would God want dinner so often? But of course, the dinner has been set aside in our country as the time to thank Him for all He has done for us in saving us by His Son's death on the cross, providing for us daily, graciously granting us the Holy Spirit to indwell our hearts. We will think on the blessings we have in giving thanks to our God during this month of Thanksgiving.
