Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Is your heart hard? Often in the Bible a hard heart is mentioned as the cause of many troubles and trials. It is listed as the cause of wars, death, and even insanity among other things.
You may remember in the Old Testament where Pharaoh and the Egyptian's hearts were hard against the plight of the Hebrews. The consequences of this were the plagues and eventually the death of their first born. Young King Zedekiah being "stiff necked and hard hearted" led to the eventual destruction of Jerusalem. When Nebuchadnezzar became arrogant and hardened his heart against God he lost his throne and his mind became like an animal's mind.
In the New Testament Jesus also mentions our hearts being hard and calloused. He mentions hard hearts as a reason Moses allowed people to divorce. Paul mentions in Romans that our hard and impenitent hearts are storing up wrath for us on the day of wrath and because of that we will be rendered according to our deeds.
The consequences of hardening our hearts are severe and can be eternal. Let us pray we do not allow our hearts to be hard. Proverbs 28:14 (NKJV) tells us, "Happy is the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity."
