"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5
This familiar verse is often quoted, but seldom followed, as I see it. I recall a man who declared that God had given him a brain and therefore he used his brain to make his own decisions, such as which car to purchase. He did not see the need to pray about issues he could use his brain for.
But doesn't God say "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9 So if our thoughts and ways do not measure up to God's, should we not walk the life of faith, in prayer and depending on Him for all our needs? The Psalmist said "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man." Psalm 118: 8 Even if that "man" is one's own self? As we look at passages on faith, let's meditate on how we can trust Him more fully each day. Pray for wisdom, guidance, faith to follow Him.
