Confession of Sin as a Part of Intercession
Nehemiah, Ezra, and Daniel, three Old Testament prophets, went before the Lord to confess their sins and the sins of their fathers as they prayed for their countrymen. Daniel said "We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Oh, Lord, listen! Oh, Lord, forgive! Oh, Lord, hear and act! For Your sake, Oh, my God, do not delay!" Dan. 9:19 Nehemiah prayed, "I confess the sins we.have committed against You. We have acted very wickedly toward You."
These prophets realized that, in some way, they each had contributed to the moral failure of their people. Could it be that our own actions, or lack thereof, contributed in some way to the decay of this nation? As we go to prayer this month, pray that God will show us our part in the spiritual decline of our country. Confess the ways our fathers and our children have played a role in allowing this tidal wave of immorality to wash over us. Pray for a cleansing of our land.
